The trip back home had been an interesting one. Brendan had practiced his illusions some more on the bus ride back, which only made him more tired. By the time they'd gotten back to the apartment building, Brendan had been practically falling asleep on his feet. Rather than trying to get a successful transformation with Brendan's dad trying to sleep, the two had decided to sleep for the night and try again in the morning, when there wouldn't be parents around.
The day before had been crazy, to say the least. Brendan had learned that not only was he one of the superpowered individuals, but his arguably insane next door neighbor was as well. But really, he couldn't have asked for a better situation. As it was, the two of them would be able to practice and refine their skills on a daily basis, and they'd be close at hand if one of them was attacked by the supposed hunters that would be after them. So long as they kept their gifts under wraps -- no pun intended -- they should be fine.
#All clear here.#
Brendan hit send. The two had exchanged phone numbers last night to coordinate what times their parents left, something that had sent Miku into one of her apparently many stuttering fits. Sitting down on the couch, he listened to the idle sounds from next door and waited for her parents to leave. That's when a thought struck him.
Was it possible to use his gift on himself? Could he create illusions for himself to see? Taste? Feel? He had to try. Looking down at his own hands, Brendan concentrated. It was surprisingly easy. In fact, it was no more difficult than it had been to use it on anyone else. He looked up, seeing Miku doing a handstand on a gorilla's back. Literally, the first thing that had popped into his head. The image faded, and as he looked down at his arm, a tingling sensation began to sizzle up and down it.
He could control everything.
Well, not everything. He still couldn't manage to combine two senses together, but the fact that he was able to affect himself with his illusions was surprising. It meant he could create his own daydreams, live out his own fantasies should he learn to manipulate more than one sense at a time. The thought was interesting, yet somehow frightening at the same time.

Since it was already so late, Miku decided to head back home, which was placed right next to Brendan's. Not like she did that on purpose. But she was really glad it happened the way it did.
She had binoculars atop her dresser. They were doodled upon and drawn on with various hearts and other obscene drawings courtesy of yours truly. Some of the hearts even had his name in them. She used said binoculars every now and then to spy upon Brendan heading outside from their apartment and often times tailing him in the shadows, provided it was night time. That aside, they were definitely something he should never, ever, see. She made a mental note to hide them in her underwear drawer, hoping he wasn't one of those panty snatching creeps. Her stealing his underwear was probably closer to the truth however.
---------
<Brendan texted you!>
Her cellphone's recorded notification message pierced her otherwise quiet yet extremely colorful room. Her walls were adorned with purples, pinks, blues, and similar variant shades of all of the above. They had several posters of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic cover the empty spaces that were still yet colorful with all of the primary colors of Twilight Sparkle, a unicorn from the TV show. At the head of her bed was probably the least colorful thing, it was her desk, appearing to be simply a black and it had her desktop PC on it. Normally she kept it on, but somehow today it was off. The wall opposite of her desk had her dresser, one that was just below waist high and a huge gaudy mirror at the back of it. It shared the same color scheme as the rest of the room.
When she suggested what her new room should look like, both of her parents had looked skeptical. Stating she was clearly too old for something like that, but with her threatening to quit all of her athletic extra curricular activities they caved, Miku was on top.
After rolling over once, Miku had realized finally that her phone told her it was Brendan with a text. This meant the message she recorded for Brendan meant he did indeed text her. With this new intel, Miku sprang from her bed, acrobatically doing some weird kung fu knock down recover, only to land assuredly on her feet.
Hands outstretched, palms out, fingers up and legs straight, Miku decided it was a good day. Checking her phone, a purple android smart phone, the picture she stole of him one night, late at night, was set as his avatar. It wasn't a good picture but alas, it was all she had. Sadness.
His text read, "All Clear". At first she was wondering what he was talking about, then she realized.
"Holy crap! I coulda had a V8!"[/b] facepalming herself back onto the bed, falling into soft covers. All of last night was real! She chalked it all up as a REALLY weird dream and vowed never to eat cold Chef Boyardee from the can ever again. Then, it was real. His message insinuated his parents were both off to work and that it was all clear for Miku to come over and......
Train her power... Sighing deeply, she just couldn't see how that was as fun as just tying him to his bed and proceeding to-
[Door Knocks loudly] "Miku dear? Are you feeling any better? Your temperature was fine, but you still looked deathly pale last night when you got home. Also your father said it was a good idea to let you stay home instead of going out with mr. Anyway, I'm going to go ahead and leave for that party the girls from the 'Overconcerend Activists Against Completely Rational Decisions' are hosting at the community center. I'll be back around 5 tonight."
At the sound of her door knocking, she jerked violently, clearly not ready for that kind of noisy intrusion to her mind. However it was just her mom. So she was also leaving? Good. She loved her mom dearly, but.. ever since she had been hanging out with the OAACRD group she's been a little.... over concerned. Haw, haw. Her father was on a business trip.
Looking around, she decided it was a better idea to meet at his place. For two reasons, pantsu stealing, and she did NOT want him to see this room. After about 10 minutes, she replied back to him
#Mommy's gone, but I'll come over there. My house is haunted. Anyone it doesn't know turns up dead 7 days later, don't ask me, IDK.#
Hastily throwing something on, she looked at herself in the mirror. Since she was transforming, she went with a lighter attire today. She had a sleeveless spandex top for gym use, actually she had several, and today's color was pink. She also put on some knickers that were also spandex. She was hoping the "spandex" would work like it did in the Animorph books, if not. She'd have to try a different approach. Maybe she could just go naked all the time. At least she'd feel free.
That aside, she buckled a jean skirt over the knickers for some additional coverage as well as slipping into White V neck T-Shirt. This also gave her a change to try her super cool MLP socks on! they were also pink and were like, knee high. but she let them slip down to droop around her ankles as she put on her trusty sneakers.
Winking at herself in the mirror, she picked up her cell and headed over to his house, right after she raided the kitchen for a ding dong. That was her breakfast.
Heading outside, and around to his house was a simple task that she was all too eager to fulfill. Without too much hesitation, she knocked in pattern on his door.

Brendan was snapped back to reality by a knock at the door. Oh, right. Miku was coming over so they could practice. She still needed to learn to transform in a safe area, where she couldn't run off and never be heard from again. "One second." He stood, checking to make sure there wasn't anything embarrassing lying around. He shut the door to his room and headed back to open the front door. "Hey." He felt somewhat awkward, not sure what to say after all that had happened the night before. "Crazy stuff. You ready to try and transform?"
Brendan turned to the TV, which was off. "Do me a favor, tell me what you see on the screen." He had so many questions to answer, the current one being whether or not he could create illusions of things he couldn't personally imagine. Could he make her see her parents, even though he himself had never seen them, just by willing her to? Or did it only work with things he'd personally seen? Unfortunately, Miku would only see a blank screen.

Brendan looked as awkward as she felt, It was practically radiating from him. Before this day they'd never really spoken to one another. Odd, they lived just across the hall from each other. Instead of looking at him oddly like she always did, she decided to make it seem like she was supe rinterested in his house.
"Oh wow! Nice pad ya got here! I mean it looks like mine, only not.. Cause it's not, and it's like reversed, like the twilight zone. Or something. Wow, just so creepy. I bet this used to be a communist apartment that went out of business when the Americans bombed Japan back in the day. I was there you know. Some old guy got blasted, in the blink of an eye the only thing left was his boots! Can you believe it? I took those boots though. I figured they were a legendary item with super stat bonu-....."[/b]
Dafuq did I just say?[/b]
Cutting herself off short, using every ounce of her being to make sure she wasn't saying another word, she merely giggled at him. It was then that he decided to ask her what she saw on the TV. Why? Perhaps, he was trying to use his power in a way that he hadn't so far. But, unless it was a trick question, she was nothing on the TV.
"I.. don't see anything, and.. you gotta be careful with those illusions! I don't like people playing with my mind.. Who knows what they could make me see.[/b]
A puff from Miku's nose was a strong indication of what that really "could" mean. Brendan would never do it, but she "oh" so wanted him to. Not that she'd ever, ever, in her life admit that to him.

Brendan just stared, sort of dumbstruck as Miku went from his apartment to communits to boots. Had she even taken a breath? "You were in Japan?" he asked. "When was this? I mean, I figured you were part Japaense or something. Names like Miku aren't that common here." Now he was getting off topic. "Anyway, I was kind of curious if I could show people things without knowing what they were, like their worst fear or greatest fantasy, but it looks like I have to actually know what I'm showing to be able to do it. Good to know you're erring on the side of caution, though. Looks like I'm rubbing off on you. Say, random question, but where do you go to school?" Brendan had gone to Frederick Douglass for years, but Miku seemed... homeschooled, he'd say. Usually homeschooled kids were able to develop their own social cues and had oddball personalities, at least in his experience.
"Anyway, do you know what you want to try to turn into first? Something safe-ish, preferably, just in case you do lose it. Maybe a hamster, or a turtle, or a declawed cat...?" Brendan was looking forward to figuring how her abilities worked; the more he learned, the more he had up his sleeves. He pointed to a closed door. "Warn me first though, I'm gonna go to my room just in case the clothes don't change with you."

Where did she go to school? It was easy, she went to the closest one here in town, probably the same one he went to. "I don't remember the name of it, haven't been here too long! And I'm bad with school names.. Freddie Cougar sounds familiar though. No wait, That's wrong. Fred something! that's all I know. I'm always studying and working super hard in school so I never know what the name is. I'm also into a bunch of after school sports, like Gymnastics and stuff! It's so fun. I'm really flexible, apparently."[/b]
Maybe he was rubbing off on her. But wait, there's more!
[mental scene switch]
And Miku's up, her technique in bowling is still pretty awkward, but can she land a strike? She's moving up.. up.. the ball is in a backwards swing, and.. and!
Gutter ball!
[/mental scene switch]
Miku's mind exploded with hardcore imagery of things she absolutely should NOT be imagining right now. How could she even "sound" like that in a situation like that. What's more, how did she even know how to sound like that? She was a virgin!
Despite blushing and stuttering this time, she tried her best to appear appalled. "Declawed cats? That's so mean and terrible! Declawing a cat is like removing a human's fingers to the knuckles!"[/b] She replied, looking almost on the verge of tears, almost being the key word. It was a guilt trip strategy, but she did really feel that way though.
That's when she did get an idea. Maybe an anime "would" be easier than human. She failed to see how, but it was still worth a try. Miku has an orange/blonde tabby cat named "Azunyah". She'd seen her many times before and knew exactly what she looked like, maybe that might be an easier shift?
"Oh! Idea! Hold on, I need to concentrate my inner fire!"[/b]
With that, she closed her eyes and focused. She was mentally scouring over her pet cat, analyzing every detail from the memory of actually seeing it. Amazingly, it wasn't too hard to do so either. At first, once again, she felt nothing. It was only after about a minute she began to feel a drain. Then she noticed, a "real" change this time. Nerves were moving, weight around her body was relocating. She was really shifting!
Shutting her eyes even tighter, she willed her body to change faster towards the image of her pet cat. However, after several moments, it simply stopped. Was it done? It didn't feel done, but she was too dizzy at the current moment to notice.
It was only after seconds had passed that she realized she was the same height, but she felt different. Colors were more vibrant than before, she might have even been able to notice details about Brendan she hadn't before. That wasn't even the half of it, her hearing was much greater. She felt like, if she focused hard enough, she could even hear Brendan's breathing. Folding her ear behind her she realized that.
"Holy cow! I coulda had a V8!"[/b] Face palming herself, she tumbled towards the ground back first. Perhaps that wasn't the first intention of her's, the face palm sure, knocking herself off her feet, not so much.
Mid fall, Miku reacted more quickly than she thought was possible, bending her back in an arc much father than she thought possible as she reached her outstretched hand towards Brendan's floor and proceeded the motion to do a reverse handspring from a very awkward position.
What's more amazing is she did it, and successfully. Staring at Brendan with a face in some kind of shocked still frame, Miku went to grab her ear. It wasn't at the side where it was supposed to be. Instead it was higher by several inches, large, pointy, and covered with her hair.
At that moment she felt something brush against her leg and looked down, only to see a tail matching her own hair color sweep by. originating from her tailbone.
Even her hands and her skin felt different. She felt like "certain parts" of her body were occupied by a small micro fur and that her nails had been converted into some odd form of razor sharp claw, for each finger. Even her canine teeth seemed to poke her in the lip, causing minor pain.
She had transformed alright, if you count halfway.
"Something's fishy here..."[/b]

Brendan had made for the door when she'd started changing. Didn't she hear him say he wanted to get into the other room first? Though he supposed, in all technicality, it didn't matter until she was transforming back. "Jeez, what the hell did you do? You're like a creepy mix." Cat-human hybrids were a lot creepier in real life than they were in those Japanese cartoons. She demonstrated her reflexes, but the lack of human ears was distracting Brendan too much. "Keep going, keep going!" At least now he know for certain that she actually had a gift. Not that he didn't believe the hotline, but he preferred to see things with his own two eyes. And Miku was definitely part cat now. "Hey, you should be the next Catwoman," he said, turning around until she either finished turning into a cat or turned back into her normal self.
"Also, it turns out I can use illusions on myself, too. It's really weird. I'm making myself see my dad right now, flying around outside. He tried to use the illusion on Miku as well, but he could actually feel that it wasn't working. Apparently, even if he knew where the person was, he had to maintain visual for the illusion to work. "Say something--er, or meow, I guess--when you're done."

Deciding it was better after all if she did move else where, she moved into his bathroom. Partly because she was curious to see what she looked like, and partly to place her clothes somewhere that she could change back into in private.
Looking at herself in the mirror, she didn't get at all what Brendan was talking about. For the most part she looked like herself, only with a pair of cat ears and a wiggly tail. At least, in the visible areas, she knew other things changed too, but in a portrait she looked just like she would. Well, her hair was actually more blonde and less orange now, due to the tabby cat's influence.
After several moments, she turned away from the mirror and tried to will herself to change all the way this time. Actually getting herself to do this was hard. It was like trying to flex a muscle you never knew you had. It was just incomprehensible at first.
But despite that, sure enough, she felt the slight drain off her energy, and she had shrank down to a fraction of herself. Since it was now hard to stand erect, she moved to all fours and looked around. It seemed to work. She was successfully a cat. Seeing, hearing, and smelling were all pretty different now. Some for the better, some for the worse. Seeing.. wasn't as bad as she thought, either. Colors were more dim. but she could still tell most of them apart. Pivoting her ears, she realized that she did in deed have better hearing, and smelling. She was like a real stalker now! With her 14 times better sense of smell, what would Brendan smell like?
Looking back at her pile of clothing, she noticed her spandex did indeed not work. It had dropped off with everything else. She'd have to experiment with different clothing to see what worked.
Pawing at her cloths, not having thumbs was already annoying. Oh well, she could jump higher as a cat than she could as a human probably. With that, she bounced out of rest room, testing her drastically reduced weight and her heightened agility.
"Mao." That was probably the most bored sounding cat cry she'd ever heard in her life, It even sounded like a fake too. Like a Cat that knew English, but not cat...inese. Or whatever. With her thought ending abruptly, She just realized something. She could screw with people so bad as an animal.
Casually striding over to his couch, she very slowly, yet deliberately reached out with her paw outstretched. With an overly dramatic movement, she extended her claws. She could practically hear the katana shwink they made in cartoons. Then very slowly brought her paw closer to her mouth, licking her claws in the most menacing way she could make a tabby cat do it. The funniest thing is animals just didn't "do" motions like that. Like what if a dog came up to you and smacked you with a gold club from his mouth? That's hilarious!
She couldnt' help but try to let out a giggle from her cat form, letting out a series of odd squeaks. It sounded like a chipmunk laughing, a miniature, maniacal, insane chipmunk. Hearing it for herself only put fuel on the fire, causing her to redouble her giggling efforts.
If anyone ever saw this. She'd be dissected. No doubt about it.

As Miku headed into the bathroom, Brendan turned back to the window, looking down at the busy streets below. All those people. He could change the way they perceived the world. He could create whatever reality he wanted for them, once he figured out a way to control more than one sense at a time. He could create another reality for himself. The thought was a little overwhelming. If it was possible to change someone's perception of reality, and his suspicions about some form of magic existing before all this were true, then how did he know he had actually experience anything he thought he had? If magic did exist, which it certainly seemed to, how did he know he wasn't in some sort of hospital bed right now, and his entire life was all an illusion?
What if no one else was even real?
An unlikely scenario, but one he could never really disprove. Brendan was hung up on that thought when he heard a meow from behind him.
He turned, watching as a cat walked over toward his couch and extended its claws. So Miku had done it. He was sure there was some sort of "getting pussy" joke in there somewhere, but he knew he shouldn't encourage her. Judging from her tendency to blush and stammer, she was some sort of combination of perverted and infatuated. "Well then, you're still yourself I take it. I wonder if you can shift straight from one form to another, or if you have to change back to your normal self first."
An idea struck Brendan. "Meow if you can hear what I'm about to say." He focused on her and attempted to alter her sense of hearing, aiming to replicate his own voice speaking. "I want chicken, I want liver, Meow Mix Meow Mix please deliver..." He smirked, almost mocking her feline-ness.

She was still getting used to actually feeling comfortable on 4 legs. As a human it was way uncomfortable, as a cat though. It was amazing, so much control over movement, so much power for such a light frame. It was like the world's best gymnast.
Getting used to the changes in color, and the absence of some would take a while to get used to, while the increase in smell and hearing made things whacky. These were the senses of a predator. If just a cat was like this, what about a panther, or a tiger? They were the same family, only much, much bigger.
At first, when Brendan asked if she could hear something, she merely looked up at him and cocked her head to the side, not really understanding what he was getting at. It was at that moment a voice spoke to her, in Brendan's tone, without his lips moving.
The initial shock of the fact he had some crazy from of telepathy made it confusing to her. A person with 2 powers? But.. Miku was pretty bright and soon caught on. He was making think she was hearing something, his voice, even though his mouth wasn't moving
Then she realized what he said, and face pawed herself, shaking her head from side to side in utter disappointment, clawing his couch seemed like a better idea than it did before. Besides, with these new claws, she had a strong urge to tear at something. It was like an itch that needed scratched.

Brendan smirked. She hadn't meowed to confirm it like he'd said, but her reaction made it obvious enough. It was one-way telepathy, essentially. Now he just needed a way for her to communicate back. "We need a way to talk while you're in animal form. Why don't you go ahead and change back, or maybe see if you can go straight from one form to another. It's best to learn as much as we can about this stuff before we take it out into the city." A childlike excitement ran up Brendan's spine. They had superpowers, and they were actually learning to use them. Now they just needed badass nicknames. Did Mirage sound too feminine? There weren't many good illusion-based names.
Brendan jumped back, creating the illusion of a mask over his eyes. "Call me... Phantasm!" It sounded like some sort of combination of "fantastic orgasm", but it was the best name he could come up with. And they needed false names to use in Haven.
Speaking of Haven...
"Also, I need to introduce you to the group. Kevin said there's supposed to be a new leader, so I don't really know who's in charge, but there will probably be another meeting sooner or later."

"Mao." She said, replying with as much enthusiastic emotion as the cat form would let her. Miku felt like they had a pretty wide range in their vocal chords, but she wasn't sure if they had the capacity to form human words. Was a real bummer, because she would have "loved" to put a cat on YouTube, talking away at the world's problems, drinking tea, so on and so forth. So cool!
Because this was the only form she had, Miku decided to bounce back into the rest room, where her clothes laid upon the ground in a messy pile. She had found the door harder to close than it probably should have been. She nudged it with her head, and with great difficulty pushed it with one of her hind legs until it was finally shut.
Willing herself to change back, she found it was much easier to do, requiring less energy, and a faster transformation time. It was possible that because it was her original form, she was able to recognize it much more easily than a form she'd never been into before.
It was a sad thing about her spandex though. As she slipped back into her clothing, she began to wonder if she'd find "something" she could cover her body with that wouldn't go away upon reversing her form.
Oh! what about body paint! I could be naked without really being naked.. well sort of, plus it's super sexy! (and some are cute)
Once fully back in her human form, she walked back out to a Brendan going on about some crazy nick names. Though, I guess they were super people now and could be targeted by evil people and probably have their families captured only to be tortured at a later occasion. So a nick name is perfectly fine with her. The only issue with that, is she had no idea what to call herself! She didn't even know till like, yesterday, that she was even a super human.
"Wow! a real super hero nick name!? So many possibilities that it's overwhelming! Just think about it. I could be Copycat, or Shifter! or... "The Animist"... Heck, even Mew Mew Miku works, how about Hyper Miku-nya? Nya! Nya, nya nya, etc, etc, etc!"[/b]
As she went on about nick names, she honestly realized she had no idea what to name herself. She had a lot of applicable names, but it was something that was just far too soon for her to just, "make" a decision on. Fortunately, she didn't have to, since Brendan spoke of something else.
[collor=limegreen]"Huh? Another meeting you say, and another leader? What's happening to the first one? Does he have a brain tumor? Is his true identity compromised? Did he get dragged onto a Jerry Springer show?!"[/color][/b] She asked, pelting him with a machine gun mag full of questions.

Brendan just stared blankly at Miku for a few seconds. "I can't decide if you're completely insane, or if you just really want to be an anime character." He sat down on the couch and started putting his shoes on. "I don't know why he's not staying as the leader. He organized the meeting, but he made it very clear that the leader would be someone else, because he had important things to do." He paused, looking up at her. "However, that being said I do have an idea of who he might be."
Brendan finished tying his shoes and stood. "He said he wouldn't be staying as leader because he had important things to do. He also said they hadn't figured out what had caused the big mass-empowering event. He seemed to imply that a friend of his was going to take over, but it's also possible he doesn't know the person well. He did say he wasn't sure the person would agree, and he looked at his partner. I figure either he wants his partner to lead the group and she's really on the fence about it, or he wants someone else to do it and he's relying on his partner to convince that person to join. Either way, I believe he's going to be busy trying to determine the cause of this event."
Brendan took a breath. He could go on a rant when he was thinking out loud, apparently. "It also seems obvious to me that he had his abilities before this event occurred, along with his partner, and most likely one other person that I know of. If there are three of them in this area alone, I'd imagine there are quite a few more across the world, perhaps some sort of superpowered group. If that's the case, then it's possible one of them found a way to cause an event like this to take place. But if that's the cause, it seems like Kevin would have already reached that conclusion..."
He looked back at Miku, having zoned out staring at the floor. "He also didn't show any signs of being bound to any one ability. He levitated, created flashes of light, spoke telepathically, and so on. I believe it's possible his partner and Asiangirl also have varying abilities. I think they're part of a larger society of supernatural people, and this event is just as much a shock to them as it is to us. Which means someone or something big has to be behind it. Those are all my thoughts right now, but I need more information to confirm it." He laughed. "Sorry, didn't mean to dump all of that on you like that."

Huh. Well. That was certainly a mouthful. That was probably the most Miku had ever seen Brendan talk ever. He must really seem to be excited about this whole ordeal. It was a little too early for Miku to be excited though. This would make her a target after all. So, because of that, she had severe mixed feelings.
"I'm not insane! I'm just really hyper, sometimes! But I "do" love anime, especially cute anime, magical girl anime, slice of life anime and all sorts of other anime. Hey! You should watch em, they're cool. Some are funny, and some are emotional. It really beats watching some American TV reruns or some stupid movie you saw over and over again."[/b]
However, from what he said. It didn't make sense. It was almost like Brendan believed these people to be the cause of what has happened across the world, or rather, might have known the person to cause it. What were their plans, why choose the method they did? Moreover, how was this even possible? She could use the DNA of anything she "copied" and switch it with her own, causing a dynamic body restructure into that organism. Something like this shouldn't ever have been possible. So why was it?
"Learning all this is all so overwhelming. It's a lot to take in ya know. Not to mention I was pretty content with just a bunch of sports, good grades, and being a shadow stalker! I'm like a rogue in RPG games, sneaky and deadly, cut ya up before ya realize then disappear back into the veil of night! Haha![/b] With that, she made several gestures and poses to accentuate her meanings.

Brendan shrugged. "I don't know, you seem pretty harmless to me. I guess it makes sense that you have good grades and do after school activities, I mean, you are half asian after all." He smirked. Part of this experience would also be learning Miku's strengths and weaknesses, what she liked, and what irritated her. "You should be better at stalking me now that you can turn into other people."
Brendan walked down the hall and turned around. "I need to get something out of my room. One sec." He quickly opened the door just enough to slip inside and close it behind him, emerging moments later with a backpack. "When we go anywhere, we'll keep an extra change of clothes for you in here, just in case. Your power isn't without its drawbacks, and I'm a little worried to learn what mine are. Anyway, I suggest some sort of robe or cloak something when we go fight crime. That way you can just crawl back into it and then transform back, without having to hide somewhere to change. At least until you figure out how to make your clothes change with you."
Here they were, under threat of being hunted down, and Brendan wanted to go fight crime. Not because he wanted to make the world a better place, but because he wanted to test his powers on someone and not have to feel guilty doing it. He needed someone who deserved whatever he could do to them, and for that, all he'd have to do would be to go out in the Big Apple at night.
