Name: Adele Roxanne Brown
Age: 20
Height: 5’2”
Weight: 125lbs
Gender: Female
Race: Human (Mage) - Demon
Quick explanation: Adele is human, but carries a piece of a demon’s soul sealed within her own body. This gives her unstable abilities, and sometimes acts as something of the proverbial devil on her shoulder, encouraging her to do badly.
Appearance:
Adele is a quietly attractive young woman who, at first glance, seems rather fragile and unassuming. Her expression is usually rather neutral, with brief flickers the only indication of her changing emotions or the thoughts going on beneath the calm exterior. Adele deliberately encourages this unassuming impression and quite often allows herself to be overlooked, although that’s not to say she isn’t an approachable young woman.
Adele is possessed of a small body which pertains more to sleek, graceful lines than lush curves. She stands at about 5’2” with a slim, delicate frame that nonetheless affords her a quiet grace. Adele has little muscle tone to speak of, having spent most of her life with her brother to do the heavy physical work and having the ability to fight through other means. Her skin is a shade or so darker than her brother’s, a creamy colour blemished with a few light freckles across the bridge of her nose. Her eyes are the same striking gold colour as her brother’s and her hair the same inky black.
Adele’s features are soft and just as quietly attractive as the rest of her, which blends into a pretty young woman without being a real head turner. She wears her hair long and most often leaves it down, so that the waves can frame her face and she doesn’t seem to mind when the shorter strands get in her eyes.
Adele is considerably luckier when it comes to scars, as compared to her brother, although she does have a faint white line curving from behind her left ear and down the side of her neck. It’s an unusual place for a scar and Adele makes a conscious effort to ignore it.
Personality:
The best word to describe Adele is quiet and it suits more than just her personality. Adele rarely speaks, for fear of her volatile power, and when she does choose to take the risk to speak, she is soft spoken and brief. Rarely does Adele deliver a harsh word or blunt statement as her brother is wont to do. The twins are perfect opposites in that Adele is definitely the softer of the pair, although she’s not perfect either.
Adele is rather like the surface of a lake during pleasant weather; often calm and still, it takes quite a while before Adele becomes ruffled or upset. She tends to handle things as they happen and makes a concerted effort not to get too emotional. If anything, the emotion Adele feels most often is fear and she believes that to be her biggest motivator.
Being that she is almost mute, she speaks so little, Adele often allows her brother to speak for her and very rarely asserts herself. This helps people to overlook her, as most of the time she seems as though she almost isn’t there.
Despite what many would think, there’s not a fiery young woman hidden beneath that outer layer of serenity; in fact, Adele is almost exactly what she appears. She’s calm by nature, with a relaxed attitude and an sarcastic sense of humour that she really only shares with herself. Her temper is a long-buried thing that almost seems non-existent, save for the rare times Dwaine has managed to annoy her enough to snap.
If there’s one trait Adele shares with Dwaine, it’s that she’s just as fiercely protective as him and finds it just as difficult to trust. She’s a loving individual, unafraid to be openly affectionate once she’s close enough to someone, and if ever there was to be a spark of fire in her eyes, it would be in protection of someone she cared about.
Background:
Adele and her twin brother Dwaine are the unfortunate result of a grief-stricken Mage’s attempt to get revenge on a Demon for the murder of his wife. In an attempt to kill the Demon, the Mage summoned the Demon’s soul and sealed it into the unborn baby of a woman in labour. Unfortunately for all parties concerned, there were twins, rather than a single baby, which resulted in the Demon’s soul being torn in half. Consequently, the Demon was more or less destroyed, but left behind pieces of his darkness in each child. Rather like having a thorn lodged in one’s side, the children grew up with unstable abilities born of darkness that ensured that wherever they went, they were not wanted.
The twins grew up in various orphanages and foster homes, often staying up until their powers caused some form of disturbance, at which point they were shuffled on. They never knew a true family beyond what they found in each other, and very early on developed a strong sense of independence.
This trend continued on into their adult lives, and the twins are still known to drift from place to place; lost souls seeking that place they fit; square pegs trying desperately to fit a round hole.
Eventually, the twins slipped into Demon hunting, which came naturally enough to them and provided them with a way to use what they privately thought of as their “curse” in a responsible manner.
Roleplay Sample:
DENIED. I’M TOO AWESOME FOR A SAMPLE. /shot.
Other (Abilities, etc):
As a Mage, Adele’s abilities centre mostly around spells, spoken verbally, which give a direction to the magic inside her and produce a result. Unfortunately for Adele, the Demon Soul inside her has managed to twist her into some dark, unpredictable version of a Mage. While it’s true that she can still speak spells and, usually, have the desired result, the Demon Soul inside her can twist simple words into spell-fragments lacking in the same precision and direction of a normal spell, by simply applying the will of magic to the spoken word. This produces interesting, and often destructive results. In this way, her magic is totally unpredictable, and her fear of it has led her to give up speaking almost completely. For example, she might be speaking and, through the course of a conversation, mention the word “fire”. The Demon Soul inside her will then apply will, or magic, to that word and without speaking an actual spell, Adele can find herself with a fire on her hands.
Breaking Point:
Adele’s breaking point would easily be losing someone she cared about, especially were it (inadvertently or otherwise) by her own hand.
