Name: Dwaine Leroy Brown
Age: 20
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 190lbs (this is a rough guess, and possibly fails XD )
Gender: Male
Race: Human-Demon
A quick explanation for that: Dwaine is human, but carries a piece of a demon’s soul sealed within his own body. This gives him unstable abilities, and sometimes acts as something of the proverbial devil on his shoulder, encouraging him to do badly.
Appearance:
At first glance, Dwaine casts an imposing figure and can be quite intimidating upon first meeting. He often encourages this original impression; his expression is usually set in some variation of a frown or scowl and he has a constant habit of folding his arms across his chest. This tends to make him seem rather unapproachable and he almost never tries to alleviate this image.
He’s a tall young man with what Dwaine considers to be a fighter’s body. Fighting has been this young man’s life, and it’s quite physically obvious. He’s broad in the shoulders and chest, with the hardened muscles of an individual used to hard physical labour. His knuckles are permanently calloused from frequent fist fights and small scars lace up and down his arms. With the shirt off, faint scars can also be seen decorating his chest; the most obvious one’s being a faint mark where he was shot in the left shoulder, and the thin slice from a knife fight visible along his ribs.
Dwaine’s features are clear-cut and handsome, if you ignore the bump in his nose where it’s apparently been broken. His face is overall striking, although it depends on opinion as to whether or not it’s striking in an attractive way. What draws attention the most about his face, however, is the uncanny molten gold of his eyes that almost seem to glow if the light strikes them just right. They contrast sharply with his dark hair, which he wears semi long, so that it brushes his shoulders, and the pale tan colour of his skin.
Personality:
Dwaine is quiet at the best of times, with an unfortunate penchant for being a rather grumpy sot. He’s sometimes harsh, cold and can be very blunt when the mood takes him. It’s easy for many to find him somewhat distasteful, especially if they only bother to discover who the young man is on the surface. However, many fail to see that Dwaine is a lot more complex than he might first come across.
Predominantly, Dwaine is stubborn and a true hard ass, with the apparent belief that he doesn’t need help, thank you very much, because he knows exactly what he’s doing. He has difficulty trusting people and often deliberately says harsh things to simply drive them away.
Beyond that, however, Dwaine has a slightly twisted, often mischievous sense of humour that can easily drive someone up the wall. He’s not a gentle soul by far, but there is a certain capability for tenderness in the young man, most often seen when around his sister Adelle.
Capable of a fierce sort of protectiveness, Dwaine is a natural take-charge type, who finds it easy to shoulder the problems of others. He tends to keep his emotions to himself in most cases and cuts an emotionally solitary figure. He guards his thoughts closely, sometimes even from his own sister and tries his very best to keep the darker side of his nature buried.
Unfortunately for Dwaine, hiding what he is often becomes a problem, for the part of him that comes from the Demon is an unfortunately nasty piece of work. While Dwaine would probably be a rather laid back person normally, the Demon soul inside him causes him to lapse into unpredictable rages and forces him into a much more combative state of mind. Depending upon the severity of the rage, Dwaine sometimes find himself manifesting much more demonlike features and, if he is not careful, can even go Berserk, which causes him to lose all rational thought beyond destruction.
This darker part of his nature is something Dwaine both fears and resents; it’s his Achilles Heel, as one might put it, and one of the reasons for his trust issues. At heart, Dwaine’s problem isn’t in trusting other people, it’s about trusting himself around other people.
Background:
Dwaine and his twin sister Adele are the unfortunate result of a grief-stricken Mage’s attempt to get revenge on a Demon for the murder of his wife. In an attempt to kill the Demon, the Mage summoned the Demon’s soul and sealed it into the unborn baby of a woman in labour. Unfortunately for all parties concerned, there were twins, rather than a single baby, which resulted in the Demon’s soul being torn in half. Consequently, the Demon was more or less destroyed, but left behind pieces of his darkness in each child. Rather like having a thorn lodged in one’s side, the children grew up with unstable abilities born of darkness that ensured that wherever they went, they were not wanted.
The twins grew up in various orphanages and foster homes, often staying up until their powers caused some form of disturbance, at which point they were shuffled on. They never knew a true family beyond what they found in each other, and very early on developed a strong sense of independence.
This trend continued on into their adult lives, and the twins are still known to drift from place to place; lost souls seeking that place they fit; square pegs trying desperately to fit a round hole.
Eventually, the twins slipped into Demon hunting, which came naturally enough to them and provided them with a way to use what they privately thought of as their “curse” in a responsible manner.
Roleplay Sample:
He'd gone mad. He knew it, but there was nothing he could do to change it. There was only the blood, now - the blood of his wife, on his clothes. On his hands, in his hair. He couldn't wash it off, couldn't purge it from his flesh. It was sunny outside, or was it? Perhaps it was raining? He couldn't tell. He could hear the fire, feel it licking at his heels as he hurried on. This had to work. Nothing else had.
He stood beside an altar with a heavily pregnant woman strapped down to it. She was alive - and conscious - judging by the screaming she immediately started as soon as she saw him.
"Please, let me go! Please don't hurt me, my baby! Please! It hurts, oh please! Help me! Help! Help!" It went on and on, spinning around in his head until he clapped his hands over his ears. Her voice, her voice! So beautiful, so terrible.
"Shut up!" He snarled and turned his attention to the ritual. The spell was an old and powerful one, and upon saying the final words, a great pulse thundered through the room and as the woman's scream intensified in both volume and pitch, something seemed to explode, and his world went black.
When he awoke, he stumbled to his feet and hurried to the altar. The woman lay pale and still, now, her chest no longer rising and falling with her breath. She lay in a pool of blood and muck, and so did her two babes. Two?! He hadn't planned for twins! How was he to know which one of them had the demon? How was he to know which one to kill, if there were two?
More importantly, what would the other one be? If one was a demon, would the other be the soul it had meant to be? The demon would surely have destroyed the soul of the other.
Slowly, the eyes of the babes blinked open, at the same moment, and he found himself staring into what appeared to be two pairs of liquid gold. A boy, and a girl. For a moment, they stared at each other, and then the male opened his mouth and howled for all he was worth. As he stared at them, his mad grief once again rose in his chest, and he plucked a knife from his robes. There was only one solution. He had to kill both the babes.
Other (Abilities, etc):
Dwaine is possessed of strength and agility beyond a normal human’s capabilities and is also much more resilient as a result. He rarely gets sick, although that’s not so much ability as actual fact. He heals much faster and finds it significantly more difficult to break bones. He possesses the ability to summon fire, although he is not immune to it and, if he is not careful, he can actually burn himself. He’s a natural fighter, but also carries the bloodlust and inner rage of a demon, which can make him almost as much a liability as an asset.
Breaking Point:
Dwaine’s greatest fear is to lose control and go Berserk – something he has only ever done at one other time in his life. He’s terrified of this, and it would truly break him if this were to happen, and he was to harm an innocent or, worse, someone he cared for deeply.
