It was dusk when Lyanna woke up. Looking out of the window of her broken down apartment, she saw the last hues of sunset slip over the horizon. She yawned and grabbed the duffle bag next to her makeshift cot. She changed into a black corset dress and Black legging. Around her neck, she adorned an onyx amulet she got from her late mother. She pulled on a cloak with a hood and smiled at the moon appearing outside. There was a gathering tonight, and there were supposed to be very special guests. She knew at least one person that would be attending.
Her only regret for having to go is that it was during a rave. She finished dressing, putting on a hair of heels, and hid a few knives on her. Leaving her abandoned apartment building, she pulled up the hood of her cloak and blended into the shadows. She picked a few people’s pockets, gathering a bit more than $100 total within an hour. “Not bad,” She thought as she put the money on her person, and dropping the wallets onto the street. Up ahead, she could see her destination. There was a bouncer at the entrance. Lyanna waited until someone else passed in and read the password out of their minds. Once she approached the bouncer, she was careful to keep her head down as she whispered,” Amicus Curiae”. With a nod, the bouncer let her in.
Going inside, she kept her hood on and her head down and opened her mind to those around her. She passed through minds quickly, seeing, as most of them were human. She caught glimpses of vampire’s minds and once a mage, but quickly retracted. She knew from experience that some of their kind could tell when someone touched their mind, and knew how to defend it. Lyanna blended into the crowd, trying to move to the pulsing music and lights, while still searching for someone she knew. She heard a noise behind her, and suddenly someone pulled off her hood. Moving out of the way, she grabbed a knife from under her cloak and looked to see who frightened her.
Squinting in the throbbing lights, she saw a man smile and put a finger to his lips before motioning for him to follow. Lyanna did so, but kept her hand on her knife. She attempted to read the man’s mind but found a wall around it. She followed him to a door leading into the back of the building. He held the door open for her and bowed slightly. Hesitantly, she entered. Upon entering, the man shut the door behind her, the sound causing her to jump. Looking around the room, she saw various people, who were now all looking at her.
A man in the corner of the room rasped, ”Who is she?” The man who brought Lyanna answered, ”She appears to be some sort of gifted. Telepathic I believe.” “Good job Frank,” The man rasped before speaking to Lyanna directly. “Introduce yourself young lady.” Lyanna bowed slightly saying, ”Lyanna Rayvn Diosuk, human gifted. Telepathic, as Frank has stated.” The man came forward with a slight smile on his face. “Good, we’ve been in need of a person with your skills for some time. Now, reach with your mind and tell me what you can. I’m Donovan Russell.” Lyanna nodded and reached with her mind towards the rest of the people in the room. Other than Frank, no one seemed to have any guards on their minds.
Quickly absorbing information she spoke aloud,” You gave me a false name, three out of the ten in this room are vampires. Two are gifted and the rest are an assortment of races I am not familiar with. Additionally, one in this room is a traitor to their race and has informed the authorities of this meeting. I believe it to be the woman called Serene.” Lyanna backed up and watched as the room came to a frenzy as the woman fell to her knees and confessed. With one move, Frank pulled out a knife and slit the traitor’s throat. Lyanna held back a gasp as blood started to pour and people left the room. “Take her to safety and meet us in the usual place Frank.” The man who called himself Donovan said before leaving. Within a minute, the room was empty except for Frank and Lyanna. “Follow me, hurry.” He ordered, running out a back door. Lyanna, with a quick glance at the lifeless body on the ground, hastened to follow.
They ran to a motorcycle in the alley and Frank jumped on, Lyanna getting on behind him. The roar of sirens filled the air as Frank started the ignition. Lyanna held her breath, hoping that she had not made a mistake by venturing out here tonight. :
I believe my character should be approved because I am a dedicated and imaginative writer. Additionally, I am always open to criticism to improve my writing and am a quick learner. :
