Name: Artemis
Age: She hasn't kept up with it, but somewhere around 1000.
Height: Usually fairly tall, maybe five foot ten or so.
Weight: Again, this depends on the form Artemis has decided to take on, but she is generally fairly slim, with little muscle.
Gender: Mentally, it doesn't really make a difference to her, but she's almost always a female simply because she likes the way they look a bit better.
Race: Djinn
Appearance: Not much about Artemis' appearance is set in stone, though she generally prefers to be a pretty, lanky woman who looks in her twenties. She tweaks bits of her appearance every day for convenience or just when she's bored, but this is currently the face she prefers:
Personality: Artemis values one thing over everything else: fun. She's lived for a thousand years, and different methods of entertainment have come and gone: at first it was serving her various masters, then academic pursuits, and now it's simply fun. She figures that the other two were just her being silly and young and has now determined that the purpose of her life is to experience, not to understand or fix anything. For a person that's so old, she gets bored incredibly quickly and is constantly seeking out new thrills to occupy her time. She's not unusually intelligent and doesn't care to try and fix this by studying or anything unless she's desperate for something to hold her attention.
Second to fun is freedom. Artemis regards freedom as one of the only things in the world other than fun that truly matters, and most of the reason she hates humans so much is that she's been enslaved by them for so long. She hates being bossed around and usually plays the "why" and "how" games with her masters until they get sick of her.
Background: Even if she doesn't act like it, Artemis is actually quite old. She was born about a thousand years ago, during the late Song dynasty in China. She spent her early years belonging to a philosopher who either didn't understand the concept of how djinn worked or didn't care to use her power for his own gain. At any rate, he simply took Artemis on as a student of his, teaching her the tenants of Buddhism and the concepts of good and bad.
As the years passed, her first owner died and Artemis found her bottle on its way along a trading route to Europe. She went about a decade not really understanding much-- not her own power, not how she was forced to obey her master's commands. This changed when she was sold to a man who knew exactly what she was. He used flattery to keep her happy and used her powers to amass a huge fortune, and was the first in a long line of masters who used her powers for personal gain.
At first she was perfectly happy with her life; she thought of herself as a sort of fairy who granted the wishes and dreams of humans. This attitude persisted for several centuries, but eventually she came to despise the way her masters took advantage of her. Around the time of the Renaissance, she began to develop an attitude, and learned the joy of the "why" game. She was heavily influenced by the philosophy of humanism and began embracing both her individuality and learning. She took to learning with gusto, and went out of her way to take as many classes and meet as many scholars as she could.
After another few centuries, she lost interest in learning about things that didn't affect her. She turned to music, dance and art, but quickly found that this wasn't for her either. She wasn't really creative or in need of an outlet; she wanted entertainment, a way to occupy her time. She's gone from hobby to hobby for years now and found nothing that lasted, and boredom is slowly getting to her; she's become restless and bored and has begun doing things that are more reckless than usual.
Roleplay Sample: Artemis had become so bored sitting around in her bottle that she was almost wishing some human could find her so she could amuse herself with infuriating them. And, just as soon as the thought passed through her mind, she felt the familiar tugging at her waist. Irresistible, yet Artemis took her time, stretching and poking at her face to shape it into a form she liked, until she was actually sucked out of her little home. She stumbled out, off balance, into the world of humans. Her master looked at her with wide eyes for a moment, and then grinned. Artemis grinned back for a moment, trying to gauge what sort of master this guy would be. He seemed harmless now, but Artemis was too experienced with humans to mistake shock for harmlessness.
”Well hello, my good fellow, Djinn Artemis at your service. Anything you want, any time you want, as long as I feel like it. Which, in all likelihood, means that you aren’t going to get anything granted. But feel free to try,” Her smile widened at the expression of comprehension on the human’s face. So she was that type of Djinn.
